Game Story

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Rookie Tony Allen made the key shots and 
Ricky Davis had the big stop.

Allen made a pair of baskets down the stretch and Davis blocked
a last-second shot to spark the surging Boston Celtics (36-29)
to a 110-109 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

Boston led, 90-79, after three quarters before Toronto battled
back. Jalen Rose put the Raptors ahead, 107-106, with a layup at
the 2:03 mark.

Allen threw down a dunk on Boston's next possession, and after
Rafer Alston buried a 21-footer, he converted a layup with 1:16
to play for the final margin.

"He made some big buckets," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Tony
was the drive guy.  It was a hell of a catch, too.  He had to
catch that in traffic and the go up strong and finish."

Toronto had its chances.  Alston came up empty on a drive and
Donyell Marshall, who tied an NBA record with 12 3-pointers
against Philadelphia on Sunday, missed one from the corner with
34 seconds to go.

Boston All-Star Paul Pierce went 1-on-1 against Morris Peterson
with the shot clock winding down and missed an off-balance
jumper.

Milt Palacio gathered the rebound with six seconds remaining but
did not call Toronto's last timeout, instead racing the length
of the court. He was met by Davis, who forced him away from the
rim and blocked his layup attempt as time expired.

"I knew we were only going to have 4-5 seconds to set up a
play," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "I just felt like we had
a better chance of getting to the basket (without the timeout).
I'm not going to second-guess anything our players do.  We got
to the basket and that's all you can ask for."

Trailing 54-53 at the half, the Celtics had a monstrous third
quarter, scoring 37 points on 67 percent shooting (12-of-18)
from the floor and opening a 16-point lead.

Despite losing second-leading scorer Chris Bosh to a lower back
injury early in the fourth quarter, the Raptors outscored the
Celtics 36-16 before Rose made his way across the lane with a
running lefthander for Toronto's first lead since the start of
the second half.

Bosh left at the 10:41 mark after battling with Marcus Banks for
a loose ball in front of Boston's bench. Bosh's legs went out
from under him and he landed hard on his back. He walked off the
court under his own power but did not return.

"Anytime a guy like Bosh goes down for our team, everybody
understands that they have to pick it up for us to have a
chance," said Rose, who scored a season-high 35 points. "We took
it upon ourselves to make a run. We picked up our intensity and
made it a ballgame."

Antoine Walker had one of his more efficient nights since
returning to the Celtics, shooting 11-of-14 from the floor,
including 2-for-2 from the arc.

"I'm just trying to play basketball to the best of my ability on
this team, whether it's inside or outside," said Walker, who
has helped the Celtics go 9-1 since being re-acquired from
Atlanta. "I'm just trying to keep this train rolling right now.
This is a great feeling right now."

Walker and Pierce each finished with 24 points for the Celtics,
who moved 4 1/2 games in front of idle Philadelphia for the top
spot in the Atlantic Division.

Rose had a huge game, shooting 12-of-16 from the field and
10-of-13 from the line.  Bosh added 20 points for Toronto.
