Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls continue to bring out the best in the New Jersey Nets. Vince Carter scored 30 points and Jason Kidd fell just shy of his latest triple-double as the Nets continued their mastery of the Bulls with a 100-84 victory. Sparked by their two stars, the Nets completed a four-game season sweep of the Bulls. They have won seven in a row and 13 of 15 in the series. New Jersey never trailed in its latest victory over Chicago, using a late 17-7 surge to put away the game. The Bulls had trimmed a 17-point deficit to 77-70 when Kidd ended a three-minute scoring drought for the Nets with a layup at 5:56 mark of the fourth quarter. Chicago rookie Ben Gordon followed with two free throws, but Kidd found Carter for an alley-oop to spark an 8-0 run. "At that point, for four or five minutes we weren't hitting shots, so we were just trying to get some easy baskets to jump-start the offense and get the momentum back in our favor," said Carter, who made 11-of-16 shots. The Nets got another easy basket after guard Travis Best saved a loose ball from going out of bounds, launching it over his head with his back to the court. Kidd caught the high-arching pass near midcourt and made a shovel pass to Carter for a wide-open tomahawk dunk with 5:12 left. "That play was just the effort that was one facet of what we did tonight," Carter said. "We were aggressive and that's something we haven't been doing lately." "All of a sudden, Jason imposed his will," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "Vince had two dunks and Travis made a hustle play. I think it shows a lot of mental toughness and resiliency." Nenad Krstic and Kidd added layups to extend the lead and Carter buried a pair of 3-pointers that opened a 96-79 bulge with 1:43 to play. Kidd, who recorded his 65th career triple-double in Sunday's win at Orlando, had 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Jason Collins added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Nets, who have won 10 of their last 11 home game against the Bulls Gordon and rookie Andres Nocioni each scored 15 points to lead the Bulls, who played without leading scorer Eddy Curry due to a hamstring injury. The news got worse for Chicago, which lost guards Kirk Hinrich and Chris Duhon to injuries. Hinrich did not play in the fourth quarter due to a pulled hamstring and Duhon suffered a right hand injury in the first half. Hinrich, who had averaged 27 points against the Nets this season, struggled even before getting hurt. He managed just seven points on 2-of-8 shooting. "I don't know how it is exactly, but it's not great," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said of the injury to Hinrich, who is day-to-day. New Jersey built a 15-2 lead less than six minutes into the contest, making seven of their first 12 shots while Chicago started 1-of-8. "I felt like our start was poor and we never really recovered from it," Skiles said. "It would have really been stealing the game if we had come back and won. They played better than us most of the game."
