Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Indiana Pacers' three-game road trip started with a bomb threat. Reggie Miller ended it launching some bombs of his own. Miller scored 22 points and displayed his long-range arsenal as the Pacers cruised to a 90-76 victory over the struggling Milwaukee Bucks. Fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the Pacers opened a three-game road trip Friday night at Detroit, a contest delayed at the start by nearly 90 minutes due to a bomb threat. Indiana went on to post a 94-81 victory over its Central Division rival. Miller also ended the road trip on a positive note, making 5-of-7 3-pointers and scoring all his points in the first three quarters. The NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers, Miller scored 32 points in a loss to Milwaukee earlier this season. Miller was at his best in the third quarter, scoring eight points in less than five minutes to open the period as the Pacers turned a 45-34 halftime lead into a rout. "I told the guys to approach this like a playoff game because this is a must win for us," said Miller, who made 8-of-15 shots. "We have enough talent here. The 12 guys that are suited are very capable of winning ballgames, so that is the approach we have to take." Indiana used an 18-3 run over the final 5:13 of the third quarter to stretch the lead to 74-50. "I thought the key stretch of the game was the third quarter," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "Anthony Johnson made a couple of suggestions to me on the fly and we ended up getting two wide-open 3-point shots for Reggie that he hit. That little stretch took some of the life out of Milwaukee and it juiced us up a bit." Stephen Jackson scored 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter for the Pacers, who concluded a 2-1 road swing. Indiana (36-34) moved into sole possession of seventh place in the East, one game ahead of Philadelphia. Michael Redd scored 14 points to pace the reeling Bucks, who matched a season high with their sixth straight loss as they continue to play out the string. "Very sluggish. We just didn't have any energy nor life about us," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. After Dan Gadzuric's layup pulled the Bucks within 56-47, Dale Davis dunked off a feed from Anthony Johnson to start the decisive surge. Johnson and Miller followed with back-to-back 3-pointers and Miller also made a technical free throw before Jeff Foster converted a layup for a 67-47 bulge with 2:33 left. Johnson had 12 points and seven assists and Davis and Fred Jones each scored 10 points for the Pacers, who led by as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter. Indiana shot 44 percent (36-of-81), including 9-of-24 from the arc. Gadzuric had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Milwaukee, which shot 40 percent (28-of-70) and made just 18-of-33 free throws. "Offensively, we didn't do anything," Gadzuric said. "We missed a lot of shots and that created opportunities for them to go in transition and score easy buckets."
