Game Story

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Chris Bosh and Jalen Rose helped the Toronto Raptors post a rare road win that kept alive their slim playoff chances. Bosh scored 27 points and Rose added 23 as the Raptors closed out their five-game road swing with a 119-107 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. In winning just its ninth road game of the season, Toronto (30-42) moved within five games of Philadelphia for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. But with just 10 games remaining, the Raptors will be hard-pressed to reach the postseason. "We know we've got (10) games to go," Rose said. "We're just trying to do what we can to finish strong and look at the standings at the end and see what happens." "All we can do is take care of our business and hope that some other things play out in different ways." Bosh said. "We've got to win and somebody has to lose, plain and simple." The Raptors jumped to a 21-10 advantage in the first quarter as Bosh and Rose combined for 12 points during a 14-3 burst midway through the period. The pair finished the quarter with 10 apiece. "We got to them early," Bosh said. "That was a big plus. Tonight was a team effort and I'm pleased with the outcome." "That's what Jalen does, he scores," Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "Bosh, he scores. In this league, good players don't miss open shots." The Raptors shot 57 percent (12-of-21) in the opening period and finished at 51 percent (42-for-83). Despite the victory, Toronto coach Sam Mitchell was disappointed in his team's individualistic play. "I give our guys credit" Mitchell said. "We won the game and that's a big thing. You're never disappointed in a win, but I am disappointed in how we played. We have to a better job of putting our personal feelings aside when you step on the court, be professional and go play." Trailing 82-65 with 4:22 left in the third quarter, the Bobcats rallied behind rookie Emeka Okafor to shave the deficit to 90-85 a minute into the final period. The Rookie of the Year candidate finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds - his 39th double-double of the season. "Everything goes better when you knock down shots," Rose said. "Anytime you make shots it makes things a lot easier. I'd like to see us try and put them away earlier. They fought and scrapped and stayed in the game." However, Bosh scored the next five points, and Toronto led by at least eight points the rest of the way. "We were making shots today," Bosh said. "Every time they made a run we responded. That's how you win on the road. We got some key stops and responded by making runs." "It looked like we just didn't have energy tonight," said Charlotte guard Brevin Knight, who had 14 points and 10 assists. "You never want to say that because the one thing we pride ourselves on is playing hard. Tonight I think we felt that we would just come back like we normally do. But they did a good job of not letting us."
