Game StoryHOUSTON (Ticker) -- Points were tougher than usual to come by for the Phoenix Suns. But Shawn Marion didn't seem to notice. Marion scored 23 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Suns won their fifth consecutive game, a 91-78 victory over the Houston Rockets. The Suns (56-17) have won two of the three meetings from the Rockets and have a two-game lead over San Antonio for the Western Conference's best record. "This is a big win for us," Suns swingman Jim Jackson said. "It gives us an opportunity to keep the best record in the league and that's crucial to us. Steve (Nash) and Amare (Stoudemire) didn't have their best games. But we showed we have replacements that can get the job done." Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming scored 11 points apiece in the first half as the Rockets grabbed a 42-41 lead. Phoenix shot just 20 percent (5-of-25) from the floor and scored a season-low 10 points in the second quarter. After All-Star center Stoudemire picked up his fourth foul in the third quarter, Marion scored 10 points, including seven during an 11-2 run that closed the period and gave Phoenix a 69-62 advantage. Scott Padgett buried a 3-pointer with 8:52 to go to bring the Rockets within 71-69 before Jim Jackson scored seven points during a 13-4 spurt, extending the advantage to 84-73 with 3:36 left. "To win on the road with a 10-point quarter is pretty good," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "Shawn did a great job on the boards and Steve Hunter kept Yao running." Joe Johnson scored 19 points, Jackson added 15 and Stoudemire had 14 rebounds for Phoenix, which raised its road record to 30-8. Jackson made his first appearance in Houston after being traded by the Rockets to New Orleans on December 27. But he failed to report to the Hornets and was dealt to the Suns on January 21. "It was just another day," Jackson said. "For me, what happened, happened. Both teams are happy with the trade. I'm so used to going back to play against an old team, it doesn't make any difference." Steve Nash had 11 assists and extended his streak of consecutive games in double digits to 14, breaking his own team record. Yao scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Ryan Bowen scored a season-high 14 points and McGrady had 13 with 11 rebounds for the Rockets (44-30), who fell into sixth in the West, one-half game behind Sacramento. "We played good defense on Tracy," Marion said. "We trapped him and made it hard for him to do anything. When he got rid of the ball, we wanted to make sure he didn't get it back." Despite their first-half defensive pressure, the Rockets failed to take advantage and shot just 34 percent (33-of-97) from the floor for the contest, including 5-of-21 3-pointers. "We were obviously not shooting the ball well," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "It's the turnovers that are killing us right now. We can't become gun shy now. We are who we are and we'll live and die with what we do."
