Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Michael Redd further doomed the New York Knicks' playoff hopes. Redd scored 32 points as the Milwaukee Bucks snapped an eight-game skid with a 106-102 triumph over the Knicks, who have lost six in a row. The Knicks (29-43) slipped 6 1/2 games behind eighth-place Philadelphia (36-37) with 10 games remaining. "For the rest of the games, we have to come out and play hard," said Knicks forward Maurice Taylor, who would not concede the final playoff spot. "We need to get a win. If some of us play hard and some of us don't, we are not going to get it done down the stretch." "I am not happy at all, as far as losing," New York guard Stephon Marbury added. Redd connected on 11-of-16 shots and 10-of-10 free throws for the Bucks, who salvaged the finale of a four-game homestand. "We just wanted to come out and be aggressive," Redd said. "I was just playing, not thinking. Before every game, we say, 'Attack.' That's our motto. "We had to win this game. We had been losing, especially at home. The fans deserved a win." Desmond Mason added 20 points for Milwaukee, sinking 6-of-11 shots and 8-of-10 free throws. The Bucks shot 55 percent (36-of-66) from the floor and 89 percent (32-of-36) from the line. "It's been a while, but (winning) is a good feeling," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "We obviously shot the ball extremely well." After Redd's jumper gave Milwaukee a 97-84 lead with 2:45 left, New York stormed back, pulling within 101-99 on a 3-pointer by Jamal Crawford with 17 seconds remaining. Milwaukee's Maurice Williams sank two free throws a second later for a four-point edge and - after Crawford lost a pass from Marbury out of bounds - he made a pair from the line for a 105-99 cushion with 10 seconds left. New York's Tim Thomas nailed a shot from the arc with 7.6 seconds to go, but Desmond Mason split two free throws to cap the scoring. "We got a lot of free throws," Mason said. "Marcus Fizer hit two big ones and Mo Williams hit four big ones. We just got to the line and knocked them down." New York coach Herb Williams was pleased with his team's comeback effort but discouraged that it took his Knicks that long to play with that intensity and aggressiveness. "The way we played the last four or five minutes, we've got to do that for 48 minutes," Williams said. "We need guys to play as hard as they can for every play, and if you can't play anymore, put your hand up and I'll put someone else in that can." Thomas scored 23 points and Taylor added 18 - his most since being dealt to the Knicks before the trade deadline - for New York, which shot just 42 percent (38-of-90). Crawford had 11 points but made just 3-of-17 shots.
