Game Story

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Thanks to Chris Bosh and Jalen Rose, the New York Knicks allowed another big lead to get away. Bosh scored 29 points and Rose added 19 of his 25 in the second half as the Toronto Raptors rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to post a 105-93 triumph over the Knicks. It was the 11th time this season that the Knicks held a double-digit advantage in a game and lost. The 19-point cushion they relinquished in this one was the largest they let get away. "I thought we could've come out with more effort and played harder," said Knicks coach Herb Williams, whose team allowed 67 second-half points. New York lost for the 10th time in 11 games. The Raptors trailed 54-38 at the half - the 15th time in the last 17 games they have yielded 50 or more points in the first half. However, they opened the third quarter with a 22-4 spurt that was capped by Bosh's hook shot with 4:22 left in the period. "At halftime we had missed a lot of shots but I didn't think our guys would quit," Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said. "They haven't quit all year." "We didn't come out with energy in the second half," said Knicks shooting guard Jamal Crawford, who finished with just seven points. "We had a 16-point lead and we knew it could go either way. Unfortunately they made a run." After going scoreless in the first half, Stephon Marbury scored 19 of New York's next 25 points, putting the Knicks ahead 85-78 with 6:39 remaining. He finished with 22 points and nine assists. Fellow New York native Rafer Alston, who had been a non-factor most of the night, sank a pair of 3-pointers to spark a decisive 23-6 burst. Rose, who has had several big second halves this season, scored nine points during the surge, including a pair of free throws with 1:46 left for a 101-91 lead. Bosh added four of his 17 second-half points during the burst as the Raptors improved to 10-30 on the road and won in New York for the first time in their last nine tries. "That's what competition is all about," Rose said. "That's what not quitting is about and that's what having a team with good leadership is about. Guys understand neither team is going to the playoffs but it was about which team wanted it more." Jerome Williams made two free throws with 18 seconds left in the first half, giving the Knicks their biggest lead at 54-35.
