Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Desmond Mason scored 22 points and keyed a third-quarter burst that sparked the Milwaukee Bucks to a 113-103 victory over the slumping Orlando Magic. Mason scored 13 of his points in the third quarter as the Bucks extended their lead to 88-69 heading into the fourth. Mason was 5-of-5 from the field and 3-of-5 from the line in the period. "We came out and pushed it up the floor," Mason said. "We got some easy baskets, got some defensive stops, and just played 'together' basketball." As a team, Milwaukee had 30 assists on 42 field goals and committed just 12 turnovers. "It's been awhile since we've done that," Mason said. This was a meeting of two teams playing out the string as the Bucks never have been in the playoff race and the Magic have faltered down the stretch. Orlando once was 31-27 and a factor in the Eastern conference playoff race but now has dropped seven straight to fall to 35-45. Though his team's season ultimately will end in disappointment, Magic coach Chris Jent said effort shouldn't be a problem. "I still have confidence in our group and their character," Jent said. "I think they'll play hard. We don't want to go out on a losing note." Rookie of the Year candidate Dwight Howard scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Magic. DeShawn Stevenson added 17 points and Jameer Nelson 16 for Orlando, which was without guard Steve Francis, who missed the game with a sore lower back. Erick Strickland and Joe Smith each scored 15 points for Milwaukee, which had six players in double figures and got points from all 11 players in uniform. "Everybody had good energy tonight," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "It's been awhile since we moved the ball that well offensively. It's just nice to get a win." Milwaukee (30-50) led by only two points after the first quarter but started to open things up in the second, taking a 55-43 advantage into the break on its way to snapping a four-game losing streak.
